DRAG MAG South Africa's First Drag Racing Magazine | October 1971 | Vol. 2 No. 5 | Vintage South African Motorsport
Original October 1971 issue of DRAG MAG, Volume 2, Number 5, one of the most desirable early publications documenting the rapid growth of drag racing in South Africa. As the official magazine of the Drag Racing Club of South Africa, DRAG MAG recorded the sport's leading drivers, technical developments, race meetings and personalities during a pivotal era in South African motorsport.
This issue features extensive coverage of the Drag Racing Club of South Africa programme, What Makes Mickey Run?, Drag Meet 26/9/71, Castrol Settlers Drag Meet, Cross Fire, Stateside Report, A.R.R.O. Two Hour Endurance Race, Club Corner, Top Eliminator Chart, and a Photo Festival packed with period racing photography. The colourful cover features a dramatic motorcycle drag racer in action and reflects the magazine's growing emphasis on both two- and four-wheel drag racing.
Early DRAG MAG issues are increasingly difficult to locate, particularly complete examples. They remain highly sought after by collectors of South African motoring history, drag racing memorabilia, hot rod enthusiasts and anyone interested in the development of motorsport in Southern Africa.
Condition - Good to Very Good
Complete and internally clean with light general shelf and handling wear. There is a tear at the bottom of the front cover adjacent to the spine. A portion of the rear cover has paper adhesion where it was stored against another magazine, resulting in a small area of surface paper loss. Despite these faults, the magazine remains an attractive and collectible copy.
