INTRODUCING THE DStv SWITCH (24-1Z)
The DStv Switch can be used to connect the DStv Explora to existing installations in complexes or flats where customers do not make use of their own satellite dishes (we call these Multi Unit Dwellings or MUDs). The switch can also be used in MUD installations to easily connect multiple XtraView decoders to the satellite signal.
ABOUT THE DStv SWITCH (24-1Z)
This switch has been specially designed and manufactured for DStv to meet the growing needs of our non-commercial installations and is recommended for use in MUDs and is compatible with most DStv digital decoders. It has 24 user bands, 4 UniCable outputs and 4 Universal outputs.
What is the difference between this switch and the DStv Switch (5-1) / DStv Switch (5-2)?
The 5-1 and 5-2 switches were designed for use in individual installations (where people have their own dishes we call these Single Unit Dwellings, or SUDs) whereas the DStv Switch (24-1Z) has been designed for use in existing installations in complexes or flats where customers do not make use of their own satellite dishes (we call these Multi Unit Dwellings or MUDs). The older switches had only 5 user bands, whereas the DStv Switch (24-1Z) has 24. The older switches alsoonly had 2 UniCable outputs, where this one has 4.
Which decoders are compatible with the DStv Switch (24-1Z)?
How will I know if I can use the DStv Switch (24-1Z) to connect my DStv Explora to the satellite connection in my flat/apartment?
We recommend you contact the installer of the satellite system in your complex for assistance.
Why does the DStv Explora not come with a DStv Switch (24-1Z)?
This switch is not suitable for all installations. We recommend the DStv Smart LNB for most DStv Explora installations. Using this LNB eliminates the need for a switch in most installations.
Do unused ports on the DStv Switch (24-1Z) have to be terminated?
Only the unused UniCable ports need to be terminated (this is to prevent signal degradation). Termination must be done using the supplied 75ohm terminator. Three of these terminators (caps) are packaged with the DStv Switch (24-1Z). There is no need to terminate the Universal ports.
The On LED on this switch does not light up. Whats the problem?
The On LED only lights up when the UniCable ports on the switch are in use.
What is the difference between this switch and the DStv Switch (5-1) / DStv Switch (5-2)?
The 5-1 and 5-2 switches were designed for use in individual installations (where people have their own dishes Single Unit Dwellings (SUDs) whereas the DStv Switch (24-1Z) has been designed for use in existing installations in complexes or flats where customers do not make use of their own satellite dishes Multiple Unit Dwellings (MUDs). The older switches had only five user bands, whereas the DStv Switch (24-1Z) has 24. The older switches also only had two UniCable outputs, where this one has four.
Which decoders can be connected to the different outputs on the DStv Switch (24-1Z)?
The following decoders can be connected to the UniCable outputs:
The following decoders can be connected to the Universal outputs:
Note: If connecting multiple decoders to this switch, changes may be required to the user band settings on the decoders. Please refer to your installer for more information.
