An attractive and collectible early 20th century commemorative medal issued in honour of Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught and Strathearn and the bicentenary of English Freemasonry, 1717-1917.
The obverse depicts the Duke of Connaught in profile against a stylised rose background beneath a crown. The reverse bears the arms of the United Grand Lodge of England with the surrounding inscription "H.R.H. The Duke of Connaught M.W.G.M. 1917" and the dates "1717-1917". The medal remains fitted to its original ribbon and brooch pin fitting.
This medal commemorates the 200th anniversary of the founding of the first Grand Lodge in London and is one of the best-known Masonic commemorative medals of the period. The original examples were produced by Spencer of London and are highly sought after by collectors of Freemasonry, British royal memorabilia and historical medals.
Condition - XFÂ
The medal displays light age-related tarnish and handling wear. The original ribbon is present with some fraying and age wear, while the brooch pin fitting remains intact and functional.
