SIGNED BY DURAN DURAN, AN INVITATION TO A COCKTAIL PARTY AT EMI RECORDS, JOHANNESBURG, SEPTEMBER, 1980, 10.8 CMS X 15.8 CMS, CONDITION: VERY GOOD.
In September 1980 Duran Duran had written what would become their debut album. Touring as an opening act for Hazel O'Connor, the band attracted critical attention, resulting in a bidding war between the record companies EMI and Phonogram. "A certain patriotism" toward the label of the Beatles led them to sign with EMI in December. A week later, the first article about Duran Duran in a national magazine appeared in Sounds. Duran Duran had noticed that Betty Page , of Sounds, was writing about a new movement called New Romantic that would fit the band perfectly.
Duran Duran are an English pop rock band formed in Birmingham in 1978 by singer Stephen Duffy, keyboardist Nick Rhodes and guitarist/bassist John Taylor. After several early changes, the band's line-up settled in May 1980 as Rhodes, Taylor, singer Simon Le Bon, guitarist Andy Taylor and drummer Roger Taylor.
