Consistantly rated as one of the top musicals of the modern era, Grease never fails to enthrall me and bring a smile to my face. The reason is simple. Unlike other musicals, this is one we can all relate to. Who, at one time or another, has not wanted to be Sandy or Danny?
The film is set around an array of musical numbers, all of which are magical. Some are thoughtful and tender; some are gyrating and jivey. The love story is often incidental to the songs which are often so hip and lively, you begin to forget whats going on in the plot. My personal faves, We Go Together and Summer Nights are beautifully song and I couldnt imagine anyone else but Olivia and John singing them. All the songs are perfectly placed within the movie which never beomces slow-paced or irksome.
