A very striking and impressive trio produced by E. Brian and Co, which operated from Foley Works in Fenton, England. Each piece in this trio is richly decorated with green, pink and gold colours dominating. The inside of the cup, the saucer and the plate each has a central scene of a peacock ascending, surrounded with a border of three cartouches containing a posy of flowers interspersed with small rural scenes of a tree surrounded by flowers. The borders of each piece is scalloped and richly gilded. Overall a really sumptuous trio which likely dates from the middle decades of the 20th century.
The trio is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. However, there is a tiny bit of crazing on the foot of the cup and around its handle. I should point out that the cup does not “ping” as it should, although I could not detect any hairline on it under my magnifying glass. The gilding is intact everywhere and the colours bright.
Dimensions: The cup measures about 9.3 cm across (excluding the handle) and is 5.6 cm high. The diameter of the saucer is about 14.4 cm and its height 2 cm. The cake plate is about 15.5-16 cm across (due to its wavy edge).
