Early art deco Enfield mantel clock for restoration plus small Smith Sectric bakelite casing.
The Enfield Clock Company (London) Ltd was formed in 1929. The first clocks were sold in 1932. In 1933, the company was finding it difficult to compete on price so the company was sold to Smiths Industries. This led to the name Smiths Enfield clocks. This clock must have been one of the first produced by Enfield - it is simply marked on the face and movement "Enfield". It has an ebonised casing and brass movement. The clock measures 21cm x 25cm, but it needs restoration and does not have a pendulum or minute hand. The mechanism does however run - albeit very fast without a pendulum.
The art deco Smith Sectric bakelite casing dates to the 1940s. It has a gold dial, and a brown bakelite casing. The clock measures 14cm x 14cm, and is in good condition. Great candidate for a battery mechanism.
