Victorian Mahogany Sofa/ Console table with drop leaves and drawer

Dimensions:

1.93m Height x 97cm Width x 45.5cm Depth

An exceptional and rare example of Early Cape dutch furniture, this holbol stretcher base armoire dates to circa 1730's and embodies the craftsmanship and enduring beauty of South Africa's colonial heritage. Crafted from richly toned woods, the armoire features the signature holbol paneled doors, surmounted by an impressive arched and scrolled pediment, showcasing the influence of Dutch baroque design adapted to the Cape. Standing on a turned stretcher base with block and baluster legs, this piece offers stability and proportion, while lower drawers with brass pulls add practical storage. The original pegged construction and warm, lustrous patina tell the story of centuries of careful stewardship. Inside the armoire offers generous storage, making it not only a statement collector's piece but also a functional addition to a period home, boutique guesthouse, or heritage property. In good condition for its age, with wear consistent with nearly 300 years of history, adding depth and authenticity to its presence.
