" on paging through this book every reader will be caught up in the past as it takes one on a pictorial tour of the history of Kimberley commencing with the first diggers at the Du Toitspan dry diggings in 1869. The tent settlements soon change to a fast expanding town in which the buildings vary from wood and corrugated iron shacks to more modern and spacious buildings decorated with beautiful wrought iron banisters and railings.

the street scenes depict the hustle and bustle that was experienced in the early days of the Diamond City. One can almost hear the clanging of the tram bells as it passes through the streets where the first electric streetlamps stand in mute evidence of the fast development of this old city........

......Sporting enthusiasts will also be interested in this publication because of the interesting photographs recording past achievments such as the tournament team of the Griqualand West Rugby Football Union, the Currie Cup winners of 1889........."
