This very attractive, large, hand painted Royal Doulton jug depicts, in low relief, 'The Sirius', a famous ship which carried Captain Phillip to Sydney in 1778. In 1790 the ship was wrecked off the coast of Norfolk Island in the Pacific Ocean. It has a very unusual handle in the form of seagulls. The series, 'Famous Ships' was introduced in 1938 and discontinued in 1958. It is stamped on the base with the special series ware and Royal Doulton back stamps and the pattern number 'D5957'. The jug is in excellent condition and measures 11cm in height, 17.5cm in width (spout to handle) and weighs 450g.
