Early 'Torquay Motto Ware' Tea for Two Set (Longpark)

This lovely, glazed pottery tea for two set, from the 1930/40's, was produced by the 'Longpark Pottery' factory in Torquay, South Devon, England. (Longpark Pottery was established in 1883 and closed in 1957). The set is made in red earthenware with a green and cream slip decoration. The tea pot has the wording 'Lang may yer lum reek', an early Scottish saying, meaning 'Long may your chimney smoke'. It was a traditional Scottish way of wishing someone a long and healthy life. Each piece also has the wording 'from Gourock' in cream on the sides, with the bases all stamped 'LONGPARK TORQUAY' in black. The set is in excellent condition.
