A study of the interaction between the Dutch and English culture in South Africa between 1795 and 1837. This is a standard work on the subject. It is designed for the general reader, yet, with its authoritative notes and documentation, it will really appeal equally to the serious reader.
The main body of the book is a detailed study of the buildings over the period 1795 to 1837. Fully illustrated in colour, halftone and line.
The author came to South Africa in 1949 and became concerned by the lack of interest in early nineteenth century architecture in the country. This book stimulated the interest in our priceless heritage.
The book is in a very good clean condition. Light blue boards with gilt lettering to spine. The jacket is shelf rubbed and the corners and spine ends are chaffed. Tears and some paper loss with a small piece missing at spine top and bottom back.
Jacket now covered with a removeable plastic film.
