Description: Early transfer printed Cream Jug Circa 1800-1820 Ref. J-27
Maker: Unknown
Date: Estimated at 1800-1820
History: The cream jug shows a typical design, found in the First Transitional Period, where potters were changing from the typical Chinese designs to incorporating European features such as hills, scenes of lakes, towers etc. Flowers are found on the rims and borders of plates. Glazing still shows a rather matt finish with numerous imperfections, especially brown dots which was due to charcoal dust from the wood fired kilns used. The design shows rather far spaced 'pixel dots typical of this time period
Marks/Observations: The glaze is cracked, there is some staining on the handle and inside the jug, and a tiny chip inside the rim. Near the spout, a factory fault in the way of a small hole can be observed.
Condition: Overall the jug remains in very good condition for its age. It is an excellent example for its day
Dimensions: Height to top of handle 6.6 cm, diameter at base is 7.9 cm
