Ecco the Dolphin, originally an innovative Megadrive title, which was then updated for the Dreamcast, has now made it to the PlayStation 2. The graphics are newly optimised and there are new design features to correct the main complaints against the Dreamcast version--primarily that there was inadequate player guidance. Ecco is a dolphin in a hyper-realistic 3-D underwater world; you'll control him as he's sent back into the past to try to reinstate the paradise of his future. How? Evil forces have conspired to destroy the planet, and if you can recover the stolen and scattered dolphin power, you'll be able to restore the harmony between dolphins and humans. But first, you're going to have to learn to swim, eat and think like a dolphin. Use different songs to communicate with other sea creatures and be prepared to defend yourself against predatory sharks. Later, go on to solve puzzles and work with others to accomplish your goals. The game features beautifully detailed seascapes, with creatures and plants that look and move realistically.

By the late third millennium the integrated civilisation of humans and dolphins created an ideal world on earth. Realising that their true destiny lay in the stars, both species departed for the outer reaches of space, leaving behind a small group of dolphins in supposed innocence as caretakers on earth. All is well until the arrival of a mysterious foe who threatens to change the events of time by creating a time tunnel and meddling with the dolphins' psyches.

Ecco must ensure that history is restored to its former course by returning all the dolphin skills that have been stolen and scattered through time by the evil Foe. Throughout the adventure Ecco will find himself inadvertently creating alternative history lines. Whether these timelines produce happy and joyful worlds or awful realities depends entirely on the skills and brains of this friendly dolphin...
