Globe Thistle, growing to 120cm, has prickly foliage and produces blue, globe-shaped flowers that have a metallic appearance.

If the flowers are cut before the pollen shows, they can be dried. These long-lived plants are drought tolerant and like a growing area in full sun with a light soil. This plant makes a great architectural plant for the back of a summer border. It is not too fussy about the soil it is grown in but generally prefers well-drained sandy soil.
