In "Edge of Tomorrow," the protagonist, Major William Cage, is a public relations officer with no combat experience who is assigned to a suicide mission against an alien race known as the Mimics. Despite his lack of combat experience, Cage is forced to join the operation, only to find himself in a time loop, reliving the same day and battle over and over. Each time he dies, he wakes up at the start of the same day, gaining experience and improving his combat skills with each encounter. As he and his comrade, Rita Vrataski, work together to defeat the Mimics, they uncover the alien's power source and ultimately achieve victory.
