Autobiography of a famous educator, including his travels in South Africa and elsewhere, views on the poor white problem, reminiscences of Smuts and other politicians with photos, portraits, illustrations, facsimiles. A distinguished educationalist, Malherbe was Director of Census and Statistics as well as Director of Military Intelligence for SA during WWII.  With intimate views of Generals Smuts, Dan Pienaar, Alexander, Evered Poole and Klopper, also origin of the song Sarie Marais.  With illus pictures of old Afrikaners. The Malherbes in South Africa are all descended from Gideon Malherbe, A French Huguenot who landed at the Cape in 1688.  With information of the generations which followed and photos of the author's family with the Malherbe coat of arms.
