Diamond tips:  Enhanced Diamonds

  This diamond has not been enhanced but some diamond brokers will want you to believe that enhanced diamonds are bad news - this is not true.

1. Clarity enhanced diamonds DONOT decrease the value of a diamond. The aim of this    process was to improve the clarity grade of diamonds and it would be just foolish to invest millions on a process that devalues a stone.

2. Their value is about 30% less than a diamond of comparable grade after treatment i.e. if your diamond was once an I1 and the grade is now SI1, it will be worth about 30% less than a non-enhanced SI1 diamond of comparable grade.

3. The process is carried out on such a microscopic level that it does not alter the weight of the diamond.

4. It does not compromise durability any more than repolishing/cutting does. Naturally occuring feathers are structural defects.

5. All enhancers issue a lifetime guarantee against treatment reversal and will retreat the diamond free of charge in the rare event that this happens. (extreme heat and acids)

6. Laser drilled treatments are permanent and are certified by GIA and EGL. Fracture filled treatments are not certified by these institutions as the possibility for reversal exists. Independant labs may certify.

7. Any serious diamond broker should beable to supply you with both treated and untreated stones on request and all procedures must be declared.
