"This book is intended primarily as a text for electrical technology courses in technical institutes and community colleges. It can also serves as a rapid review of modern electrical- engineering principles for those who have been away from portions of the field for some time . The background assumed is that of a capable high-school graduate wth some training in algebra and the elements of numerical trigonometry. The specific techniques required amount  to very little more than the solution of linear simultaneous equations and an occasional quadratic, the meaning of the trigonometric functions and knowledge of how to use tables of these functions. We introduce the symbol of d/dt early so as not to force the student to unlearn oversimplified concepts at a later time.We ask simply that the reader regard it as shorthandfor the time rate of change of quantity which follows it. ( the process of differentiating a sine wave, essential to a-c theory, is carried out numerically in an example without requiring calculus )..... "
