A beautiful antique ring, this piece is 100 years old, hallmarked 1916. I would love to know the story behind this piece but research tells us that half-eternity rings - particularly those featuring rubies to represent matters of the heart - were popular as tokens of love to be given to a lady by her husband or boyfriend on his way to the front during the First World War. It is beautifully made, with 3 round cut rubies totalling 0,16 carats, separated by yellow gold spacers that have been set with 4 x 1,3mm diamonds, one above the other. The colour combination is striking, the rubies - a strong pinkish colour - diamonds and yellow gold really beautiful on the finger. The ring bears the hallmarks for 18ct gold (750) and the Birmingham assay and the date mark for 1916. There are some minor buff marks and the gold shank is fairly slender at the back, but considering it's age it is in really good condition. This piece has been jeweller authenticated and valued at R 8'604,00 but its worth mentioning that he only values the gold and gemstones. It is almost impossible to evaluate jewellery for its age, collectability or historic value!
