Effective fire protection depends largely on effective fire risk identification and then to pro-actively take appropriate measures to prevent such fires through the implementation of a fire protection system.
According to statistics of the fire department, there's a 30 second time frame from the detection of a small flame to a serious fire. When this does happen, what do you do?
It is only human to try and escape; or
You may try and locate a fire extinguisher.
Unfortunately, in most cases when the fire occurs it is always accompanied by smoke and in many cases with the emission of harmful gasses, with the result, it's almost impossible for you to get to the fire extinguishers.
In Terms of South African regulations and guidelines, measures are legislated to achieve this goal, through a required rational design for buildings in terms of a South African National Standard referred to as SANS 10400-T:2008 regulations. This however does not cover and absolve personal responsible actions to prevent fires, so that harm to persons or animals and damage to property could effectively be minimize and n some cases be prevented.

The ELIDE Fire Extinguisher Ball is a lightweight portable fire extinguishing device which automatically activates on contact with open flame. It is therefore such a product to help prevent fires at its source and to effectively extinguish a fire in a few seconds. By activation through contact with an open flame (heat will not activate it), the fire is extinguished before it spreads and become a serious fire.
