The ELM 327 is a great entry level diagnostic tool
for small workshops that need to get into vehicle diagnostics.
This is a "universal" interface,
compatible with all OBD2 Protocols,
so it will work on most cars from 1998 up to the present
(please read information below for compatibility info)
This should be the ELM tool of choice for the
professional or workshop that deals with various cars.

Please note :Even though this interface is compatible with all OBD2 Compliant vehicles,
all South African vehicles are not OBD2 compliant, as a result it may not work with certain South African produced vehicles. From experience with
South African users, we know that it does work with the following makes in South Africa :
Mercedes Benz,petrol BMW's, Ford , some Volkswagens , some Audi , Subaru , Mazda ,
Jeep , Chrysler, some Toyotas, some Isuzus, Porsche, Hyundai, KIA , Mitsubishi, some Volvos, Peugeot, Citroen, GWM, Mercedes Benz
It will also work on most imported cars.
It does not work with most :Diesel BMW , Opel , Nissan,Land Rover,Late model Volvo (V50 etc), Renault
Makes not listed have not been tested.
We have not been able to test this interface with every model of every make in South Africa and the above list is based on the cars I've tested personally. In general if it works on one model of a make it works on the others, but there are exeptions.
So really the only way to know for sure if a car is
compatible is to plug it in and test it!! The ELM 327 will perform all OBD2 system functions Which include :It will allow you to read and reset OBD2 Fault codes (mainly engine) , read selected engine sensors in real timeAnd clear the “Engine Malfunction” warning light.It will not work on non-OBD2 cars, It will not access non-OBD2 modules (ABS, airbags etc) and it will not reset service intervals or service lights , or any other warning lights
