Dr. Elwin Buchel is a South African artist and consultant gastroenterologist, who lives and works in Abu Dhabi. His interest in art was sparked at the age of five when my piano teacher suggested that he should try art lessons instead. Soon after, he started classes with an Italian art teacher, who taught him how to use water color and oil paint. Painting has been a vital part of his life ever since, although he studied medicine, he never had a lot of time for any formal art training. He uses acrylic and oil paint on a canvas. The most important component of all his paintings is color. He draws daily and endlessly in his free time, when his not working at the hospital. His work varies in size, from small (30x40 cm) to mural-size (180x140 cm). His paintings reflect a mood, the joy of working with colour, and the excitement of discovering new images and perspectives. His sources of inspiration are happiness, joy and the energy of life. People, buildings, animals, flowers, Middle Eastern architecture, musicians, and boats on the sea are my favourite subjects. Recent Sales in the middle east 1200x1500 selling for R125 000 a painting. These paintings have not really been on the market in South Africa, now only available to the public. This is a great art investment to have in your collection.
