Encephalartos transvenosus (Modjadji Cycad or Modjadji's Cycad) is a palm-like cycad in the family Zamiaceae, growing to about 12 m tall. It is found in Limpopo Province in South Africa. It is also sometimes called "Modjadji's palm" and is named after the Rain Queen.
The leaves are 1.5-2.5 m long, pinnate, with numerous leaflets, each leaflet 16-25 cm long and 3-4 cm broad, with a spine tip and 2-3 small marginal teeth. The seed cones are 50-80 cm long and 20-30 cm diameter, containing numerous poisonous seeds surrounded by edible flesh.
Please note:
We do our best to ensure the seeds are viable by float testing and cutting samples open to check for embryos, but there is still not guarantee that they will grow.
We are prohibited by Law to export seeds to countries outside the RSA.
