Enchanted Arms is a turn-based role-playing video game developed by FromSoftware and published by Ubisoft for the PlayStation 3 in 2007. Originally released as an Xbox 360 launch-window exclusive under the name [eM] -eNCHANT arm-, the PS3 version arrived later with added features, including utilization of the Sixaxis motion controller and additional unlockable "Golems."
Setting and Plot
The game takes place in a fantasy world that blends advanced magic and machinery. The story centers around Atsuma, a lighthearted and somewhat lazy student at the Yokohama Enchanted Academy. Atsuma possesses a mysterious right arm that can negate magic and drain energy from Golemsartificial life forms created during a devastating war 1,000 years in the past.
When a routine school festival goes wrong, an ancient and highly destructive Golem known as the Queen of Ice awakens. It destroys the city, separates Atsuma from his best friends, and forces him onto a quest across the continent to stop a global catastrophe and discover the truth behind his own arm.
Gameplay Mechanics
Enchanted Arms blends traditional JRPG exploration with a highly tactical combat system.
Tone and Reception
The game is known for its distinctly campy, colorful, and sometimes melodramatic anime aesthetic. It features a bright color palette, eccentric character designs, and a lighthearted tone that frequently breaks up the serious world-ending stakes of the main plot. Upon release, it received mixed-to-average reviews, with praise directed toward its fast-paced tactical combat and Golem-collecting mechanics, while criticism focused on its linear dungeon design and polarizing voice acting.
