Gem type:  Genuine Untreated JADE !!

Jade

For over 7 000 years Jade has been used by civilisations in many parts of the world to adorn, to protect and for worship. This stone that appears, at first to be a simple green stone, can be cut and polished to reveal the beauty of its green radiance.

Today the term 'Jade' actually refers to Jadeite.

Jade is a green stone that has been used for millennia to make carvings and jewellery. . Its characteristic green colour is caused by the presence of chromium in its structure while lighter green specimens are caused by iron in the structure.

In fact, the value of Jade is often determined by the intensity of the green. The most sought after colour is known as imperial green. Likened to an emerald, this is the richest and purest green of Jade available. Only Jadeite can reveal this intensity of colour. Also, unlike other gemstones where flaws, blemishes and the like often reduce the worth, in Jade, these flaws often add character and value to the stone.

The history of Jade in Europe is fairly recent, with the stone only having been introduced a few hundred years ago.  It was seen as the embodiment of honour, virtue and ethics and no man would be seen outside without some form of Jade adornment about his person. It was also considered to be a lucky stone that protected its owner .

Today Jade is still used as adornment in jewellery and it is carved into interesting and beautiful shapes by people who desire and appreciate its beautiful green colour..
