L K O’Brien, who served from 1955 to 1962, signed these £1 and Ten Shilling notes and it was during his term that the Britannia Series was discontinued and a new series was introduced.

For the first time in the Bank of England’s long history, the portrait of the reigning monarch appeared on its notes.
