"English Ceramics" is a highly-regarded, illustrated book by the late art historian George Savage (1909-1982) that serves as a documentary history of English pottery and porcelain from medieval times through the end of the eighteenth century. First published in 1961 by Alpine Vine Arts (and reissued in other editions, including a 1983 version), the book is said to be a "brilliant piece of detective work" that offers insight into the social customs and fashions of the time, in addition to being a collector's resource. It features extensive illustrations, including 56 colour and 128 black-and-white plates.
Part One: Pottery
Covers medieval and tin-enameled wares.
Discusses slip ware and English stoneware.
Examines the wares of Asbury, Whieldon, and associated potters.

Part Two: Porcelain
Details the major factories: Chelsea (West London), Bow (East London), and Derby (Derbyshire).
Includes the Worcester factory and its origins.
Covers less prominent, but historically significant, operations such as Longton Hall (Staffordshire), Lowestoft (Suffolk), and Plymouth and Bristol.
