Common Name: Escallonia Escallonia pulverulenta is an evergreen shrub growing to 3.5 m at a fast rate. It is hardy to USDA Hardiness Zone 9 and will tolerate sporadic freezing spells of about – 5°C, the typical morning frost of central Chile.
The plant prefers light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils and requires well-drained soil. The plant prefers acid, neutral and basic (alkaline) soils. Plant it in a sunny position as it cannot grow in the shade. It requires dry to moist soil and can tolerate salt spray. This is a very good candidate for a windbreak hedge.
