ESP8266 -12E Development Board - Wireless serial WiFi Module 

This is a Development board version of the popular new The ESP8266-12E is a tiny but powerful system on a chip and designed for the Internet of Things. It has an integrated Wi-Fi networking solution, allowing it to either host the application on the onboard web server or to offload all Wi-Fi networking functions from another application server.

The Development set comes with 3AA battery holder to allow a standalone project.  All IO pins break out to header. perifiral components to speed up development.

The ESP8266-12E has powerful on-board processing and storage capabilities that allow it to be used for sensors and other applications with minimal development up-front and minimal loading during runtime. withe new version and more exposed pins minimal external circuitry is required and comes in a very small footprint package.  Great for use stand alone due to the powerful processor or with Arduino and Raspberry Pi projects.
