Koning Ahasveros was getroud met Vasti, maar een dag, na feestelikheid van 7 dae, toe hy te veel te drinke gehad het, laat roep hy haar om aan sy manskappe sy mooi vrou te wys. Met hierdie versoek verneder hy haar en sy weier om soos n trofee op toon gestel te word. Koning Ahasveros voel vernederd voor sy manskappe en daar word n voorbeel van haar gemaak sodat geen vrou in die toekoms weer haar man sal verontagsaam. Die gevolg: Sy word onkroon as Koningin.
