Leslie Austen depicts Peter Pan in a night shirt playing a flute or trumpet and standing atop a trunk or log shaped base teeming with rabbits, squirrels and fairies. The original sculpture was installed secretly at night at Kensington Gardens on 30 April 1912 followed by an announcement in the Times newspaper to promote the event and the novels.
