ETHIOPIAN SHOTEL 

WITH WOOD GRIP & LEATHER SCABBARD (including belt... a complete kit/set.)

SHOTEL HAS BEAUTIFUL GROOVES RUNNING ALONG SHARP BLADE ON BOTH SIDES...WITH TINY LITTLE LINE PATTERNS RUNNING TOWARDS EDGES. And a line running in middle of blade and grooves next to it which fattens out to the blades edge... both sides are still kinda of very sharp. And the tip is as sharp as a needle... :)

A shotel is a curved double-edged sword originating in Ethiopia or Abyssinia. The Ethiopian swordsmen who were trained in using this weapon were known as shotelai. The curve on the shotels blade varies from the Persian shamshir.
 
Battle use of the Shotel involves hooking attacks both against mounted and dismounted opponents. It was used to rip the opponent off his horse or when the opponent is on the ground to reach around a warriors shield. A brutal weapon in combat situations.
 
Shotels are carried in a close fitting leather scabbard.
This shotel is from the late 1800s or early 1900s and is in good condition considering its age and use. A belt is attached.
