Description: During the disastrous Everest season in 1996, Cathy ODowd and Ian Woodall became the first South Africans to climb Everest on the 25th May. The exceptionally bad weather of the 1996 season claimed 11 lives, including that of Bruce Herrod, the climber-photographer on the 1st South African Everest Expedition. Bruce summited Everest and then disappeared, his body only being found a year later. This is the story of the Expedition.
