I own a
Logitech Wireless Gaming Headset G930 with 7.1 Surround Sound that I've used for over a year that I really, really like. Unfortunately, as the reviews on Amazon and elsewhere document, it developed an issue wherein it no longer charges. (The charge port becomes loose internally, and can only be fixed with a risky soldiering procedure which I did not want to attempt.) So, I needed to find a replacement but I didn't want to pay $100-$250 for another gaming headset, at least not at this time. I chose the LifeChat based on the recommendation of WireCutter's article. I should disclose up front that I primarily use headphones for PC gaming, and I bought these as a stop-gap until I decide on another pair of more expensive gaming headphones.
Sound quality: The sound in the headphones is, for a set that only cost $30, outstanding. I was very pleasantly surprised, actually. The microphone was also very adroit at picking up sound and didn't seem to transmit much if any background white noise (I often Skype with an oscillating fan immediately behind me).
Cord Length: Yes, this deserves a paragraph of its own. Based on where my PC sits and the size of my desk, cord length is very important. I can't stand products that assume all peripherals only need to reach an as-the-crow-flies length of six feet from the computer. The cord on this produce was long enough to reach my PC and be neatly tucked behind my desk. I always appreciate when products have a longer cord--from gaming controllers to speaker wires to HDMI--because it gives you more versatility. Again, for a cheaper headset it was a very pleasant surprise to find the longer cord.
Comfort: This is the only area I can find fault with this product. The ear pieces are not large enough to completely fit over the ear (like most headphones I'm accustomed to using), and over time my top and bottom lobes became sore from the ear pieces pressing them directly into my head. The caveat, as I stated initially, is that I use these for gaming. So after two or three hours this becomes a problem. If you're the type of person who will use them for a ten-to-thirty minute call, they won't be an issue. If you plan on prolonged use without removing them, discomfort over time (2+ hours) can probably be expected, unlike pieces that are completely over-the-ear.
Value: These are an outstanding product for the price. I still prefer much more expensive over-the-ear headphones, but you don't compromise much on the sound and build quality for such a low price. There are no cheap external foam parts, etc. For most purposes and most people these will probably be very excellent headphones.
