A history of the Cape Colony up to and including the War of the Axe 1846-8 in which the author was supernumerary officer in charge of irregulars and of which he relates his personal experiences in volume 2. The book contains an expose of misgovernment at the Cape by the incumbent governor and this made publication of the work very difficult. An uncommon work.
