2-4" long, ovaloid, brown skinned, hairy fruit with juicy, golden-yellow, acidic sweet flesh.
Fast-growing vine up to 30ft. Vines needs support and like to twine around trellises.
Kiwi's are fairly hardy and can survive to 10-15F.
Grow in well drained soil. Fruiting occurs on mature growth (at least a year old), and slows on old wood (over 3 years). Plants are male or female, so cross pollination is necessary for fruit set. For backyard culture, it can be common to grow several vines together in a clump in order to ensure both sexes. The golden kiwi is very similar to the green kiwi (Actinidia deliciosa) in growth patterns and outward appearance.
Propagation By seed.
Usually eaten fresh, but also used in beverages, desserts, and as a flavoring.
GROWING GUIDE
Refrigerate seeds for 3 weeks prior to planting. Seeds must be kept totally dry during this refrigeration period.
Locate a sunny area with partial shade that supports a trellis system or patio cover. Kiwifruit needs support for its vines.Prepare well-drained, rich soil. Space seeds about 1 metre apart when planting directly into the ground. Water throughout the season. Kiwifruit grows best with a large amount of water, especially in dry, hot summers.
