Exquisite German made MANTLE CLOCK, superb Westminster Chime ! ! !
please read this:
This Clock is made by the better known German Master Clockmaker KARL LAUFFER of Schwenningen in the Black Forest region of Germany. It has a convex glass cover over the dial and is contained in a very neatly manufactured dark oak casing with an attractive violin varnish sheen finish. No blemishes that I could spot. The dimensions 595mm wide x 230mm high x 175mm deep.
The movement is a 7 day wind-up work, it keeps time impeccably and chimes distinguishably on the dot every 15 minutes with hourly gongs according to number of hours 1 - 12 times on the full hour. It is, in fact, a pendulum assisted movement, the pendulum being inside the works. It is a numbered movement (0133272) A signed quality control sticker evidences a PROPER German testing process and quality control approval after manufacture! It is anybody's guess when exactly is was manufactured; Lauffer have a long and renowned history in Germany for Mantle and Upright Grandfather Clocks; I would place it somewhere between 1920 and the 50ties (and that is judging by the "old type" control sticker inside the casing door)
The Chime marks every 15 minutes with the preamble chime (once on quarter-past, twice on half-past, three times on quarter-to and 4 times on the hour). On the hour this preamble chime is followed by lovely sonorous gong beats for the number of hours. ON THE DOT! The five tone sound system of the entire spiel indeed surprised me for the quality and soundlevel (wooden housing!). If you care to take a look at sound mechanism above you might get an idea of the varied commotion this stunning timepiece produces. It beats many gong-type clocks by volume and melody. The lever on the right hand side, next to the door, acts as volume control and noiseless transport safety clip [typically German! :-)]
A definite ADORNMENT to every time-conscious home; this tasteful clock (and sought after collector's item) is bound give you decades of pleasure. It is warranted to have undergone a complete check up, cleaning and maintenance service before placing it on auction; as it is, it has met the clockmakers strict measures! It is in astinishingly good nick - I would call it "TOPS"!
I shall provide set-up instructions and operating hints. UNCOMPLICATED!
