Exquisite Japanese Hakata geisha doll

These Hakata dolls are very popular collectors items - they are produced in Fukuoka, the city in Japan that was the original target of the bombs that destroyed Hiroshima (it was a cloudy night over Fukuoka that night, and so the bombers were rerouted to Hiroshima where they could see the target).  It is a ceramic item.

The bonsai tree is an indigenous wild fig - age unknown, but judging from the stem thickness it must be at least 15 years old (my guess).  The doll and the tree display so beautifully together that, if you're interested, we can talk about the tree as a separate purchase - if you're in Gauteng.
