VINTAGE PORTUGESE BRASS FILIGREE GALLEON
A rare, intricate little work of art circa 1960's
Beautiful showcase display piece!
It is hard to believe that this exquisite piece was hand made from super thin brass wire, twisted, bent and soldered into the shape of a galleon!
As far as we could determine, it dates to around the 1960's and was of course made in Portugal.
The galleon is three masted with 6 sails and 2 flags atop 2 crow's nests. Each sail bears a removable red enameled cross. On the starboard side of the stern is a red and green enameled sign reading "Portugal". Towards the bow, the letters "CU" is stamped.
These galleons were originally sold without a base, but the previous owner mounted it on a wooden base so that it stands more securely.
The ship itself measures approximately 16cm tall and 14cm from front to back. The base is 16cm x 6.5cm.
