The story of a young doctor horrified by his colleagues' almost diabolical disregard for human life.
Dr Joe Womack works in the neurlogogy ward of a vast municipal hospital, where everyday decisions are matters of life and death. He feels alone in a world of clinical indifference, surrounded by colleagues who don't give a damn - all they seem to care about is collecting dramatic cases and jealously vying to experiment with new surgical techniques and radical treatments. Under the strain Womack starts to doubt his own fitness to be a doctor.
