EYECATCHING FISCHER AUSTRIAN 1970S WOODEN SKIS 1,8M LONG WITH TYROLIA SKIMEISTER BINDINGS
A WONDERFUL OLD PAIR OF VINTAGE 1970s FISCHER WOODEN SKIS MADE IN AUSTRIA. THE SKIS ARE 1,8M LONG AND COMES WITH TYROLIA SKIMEISTER AUSTRIAN MADE BINDINGS. HOLDED TOGETHER BY TWO OLD SBK MARKED ENGLISH MADE VINTAGE WOODEN CLAMPS WITH TIGHTENING SCREWS ON EACH.
Early skis were made from a single piece of wood which meant that the camber under the binding and the curve at the tip was clamped and steamed into position. The problem then was that the wood wanted to straighten itself back out again, especially when stored out of the ski season. One way to counter this was to put a wooden block between the skis under the binding and clamp the ends to keep the camber, or bow, in the skis.
THESE OLD SKIS ARE STILL USABLE FOR THE TRADITIONAL SKI ENTHUSIASTS BUT ALSO GREAT BAR DECOR TO HANG ON THE WALL.

FISCHER (1924-present): Fischer AG was founded in 1924 by Joe Fischer Sr in Salzburg Austria. By 1938 the factory was exporting thousands of skis. After WWII, the teenage Joe Fischer Jr. joined the business. Joe Fischer Sr. died in 1959 and Joe Jr. took over management of the factory, By then they were manufacturing more than 53,000 pairs of skis annually, and exporting tens of thousands to North America. By the early 70s, Fischer was the largest ski manufacturer in the world. To enter the cross country ski market, in 1972 the factory introduced the first metal-edged fiberglass touring ski, the Europa 77. In 1981 Fischer launched a new division to manufacture carbon-fiber aircraft parts, first for Airbus and later for McDonnell-Douglas and Boeing. In 1990 the company went public and Joe Fischer stepped away from daily management. Then in 2002 the Fischer family regained control and privatized the firm. Joe Fischer retired in 2009.
TYROLIA (1847-present): The TYROLIA Company, located in Schwechat, Austria, and founded in 1847 manufactured its first ski binding in 1928. Ten years later industrial production started and in 1949 the first TYROLIA-branded ski binding was produced.
WOODEN SKIS: The wooden ski has been utilized all over the world. While not used by the huge majority, there are some people that still prefer to use wooden skis. They are still manufactured today by certain brands. The Norwegians are often thought of as the inventor of the modern ski. The word ski comes from an Old Norse word that means piece of wood. Although skiing has been around since 6,000 BC, the modern ski is still quite new It is believed that the first modern skis were fashioned around 1840 in Telemark Norway. By the start of the 60s, the first successful fiberglass skis were invented, bringing in the modern era of skis. As time went on, carbon fiber began to replace fiberglass as the choice material for the composite layers.
