Rare Large Sterling Silver 'Patrick Mavros' Elephant Herd
This impressive, beautiful, large sterling silver sculpture by legendary Zimbabwean artist 'Patrick Mavros' features a small herd of African elephant, individually mounted on a blackwood base. It depicts an adult elephant 'Chikwenya', the matriarch and four young calves named, 'Boy, Kaume, Toto and Ndonda', all names with real-life meanings to 'Patrick Mavros', and his attention to detail is amazing. The elephants are very heavy from being cast in solid sterling silver, with each individually being signed and stamped on their bellies. The hardwood base is also signed with a small, round, silver seal inserted on the side, with the letters 'PM' and an early Rhodesian assay silver mark, depicting a Sable antelope head in a triangle.
