Kurt Jobst was born in Austria in 1915 and emigrated to South Africa with his family in 1935. He was commission by the SA Government to make the official wedding gift for Queen Elizabeth in 1947.  A "follower" of the Bauhaus movement, Jobst went on to become one of Johannesburg's leading silversmiths.  Jobst was proficient in all types of metal work from cast iron to jewellery.  He died in 1971 at the age of 66 as the result of a car crash.  His work has become hugely collectable and a book of his work was published in 1977.  See www.kurtjobst.eu.
