Hardcover first published 1945 by Michael Joseph Ltd., in a whole but worn and marked jacket, now protected in cellophane. Boards slightly warped. Gift inscription dated 13/11/1945 pasted onto front endpaper map of Mediterranean, foxed preliminary and last pages, with foxing also along external page edges. The author was OC 5th New Zealand Infantry Brigade, was captured at Tobruk, escaped, returned to England, and was killed two months after D-Day by a shell exploding near his jeep.
