TITANIUM

Strength and durability

One of titanium’s most-touted advantages is its durability. While gold and silver jewelry scratches easily from daily wear, titanium is one of the strongest and most durable metals that can be formed into jewelry. At three times the strength of steel, titanium jewelry can withstand almost any adverse conditions. The element is a 6.5 on the Mohs scale of hardness, which measures how easy or difficult a material is to scratch. (A diamond ranks at the top of the Mohs scale, at a 10.)

Scratch Resistant

Another positive quality of titanium is that it is highly scratch resistant compared to gold or platinum. While titanium can be scratched by exposure to hostile conditions (i.e. sanding, grinding), normal wear should not cause noticeable scratching.

Lightweight

Titanium jewelry are incredibly strong and lightweight when compared to jewelry made of other metals, such as gold and platinum. In fact, because of its tremendous strength to weight ratio, titanium is used throughout the aerospace industry to construct critical aircraft and spacecraft parts. A typical jetliner can contain over 1 ton of titanium parts!

Corrosion Resistant

Titanium jewelry are extremely resistant to corrosive fluids, such as solvents and sweat produced by the human body. As a result, titanium lasts far longer than similar gold or platinum jewelry that has been exposed to normal wear.

Allergies/Reactions

Those with sensitive skin usually find they can easily wear titanium. Jewelry allergies usually occur because different metals are mixed to make an item hard--for example, nickel is commonly mixed with silver and gold. The skin reacts with these added alloys, leading to allergies or, in some cases, leaving a green or blackish tint on skin. Titanium needs no other alloys combined with it to harden into a piece of jewelry, and titanium on its own won't react with any substances the body emits, lessening the chance of a reaction.
