A BEAUTIFULLY HANDCARVED RESIN FENG SHUI KYLIN DRAGON.THEY ARE HAND CARVED OUT OF CINNABAR RESIN WHICH IS A TYPE OF NATURAL TREE SAP FOUNDIN CHINA.
I HAVE TWO FENG SHUI DRAGONS ON AUCTION. THIS ONE HAS THE LARGER HEAD OF THETWO SO I CALLED HIM THE MALE KYLIN DRAGON.
FIRST I THOUGHT THESE WERE FOO DOGS (ALSO MYTHICAL LION CREATURES IN CHINESEMYTHOLOGY THAT IS ALSO USED FOR PROTECTION) BUT THE WINGS AND THE BEARDSRESEMBLED A PAIR KYLIN DRAGONS MORE. MAYBE IT IS A UNIQUE MIXED REPRESENTATIONOF THE TWO.
KYLIN (QILIN) CHINESE DRAGON:
Kylin is an animal in ancient Chinese mythology. The kylin is depicted invarious ways; typically with a dragon-like head and a body with the combinedqualities of a giraffe, horse, ox, and deer. Usually hooved, they are seldomportrayed with claws. Sometimes they will have the antlers of a deer, and othertimes they are shown with the horns of a giraffe. Often depicted with manesthat flow upward, and beards. The body is usually fully or partially scaled andoften shaped like an ox, deer, or horse.
Although their appearance may be frightening to some, in mythological lore thekylin is viewed as an ally of humanity. According to legend, the appearance ofa kirin foretold the birth of a great ruler or profound human being, hence itssymbolic association with fertility. The kylin is said to be an animal of longevity that could live for 2,000 years.It is also believed that the beast could spit fire and roar like thunder.

The Kylin is one of the "Four Divine Creatures", the other threebeing the phoenix, the turtle and the dragon. In ancient times, it was regardedas a celestial animal, a benevolent animal, the mount for god and a symbol ofauspiciousness. Of all animals, the kylin was ranked second only to thedragon.  
In traditional Chinese folk customs, various ornaments bearing kylin images aremade and given to children as a talisman that could bring luck and protection.
WHAT IS FENG SHUI?
Feng shui is an ancient Chinese art of arranging buildings, objects, and space in an environment to achieve harmony and balance. Feng shui means the way of wind and water. It has roots in early Taoism but is still popular today, having spread throughout China and even to Western cultures.
WHAT IS CINNABAR RESIN: Lacquer is the resin (or sap) of a family oftrees (rhus verniciflua) found throughout southern China. Carved lacquer, which is predominantly red, is often known as "cinnabar" lacquer, are ference to the use of this powdered mercury sulphide as the primary colorant.
What Are Fu Dogs?
Fu (or fo) dogs are mythical lion-like animals that are protectors. Fu dog statues can be found in China flanking the entrances and gates to palaces, official buildings, temples, homes, and even tombs. These guard dogs keep watch and were historically placed to ward off any negative energies. 
Fu dogs are thought to have originated from the protective symbol of the lion that traveled with Buddhism to China. Many Buddhist temples had guardian lions at their gates. The lion is an animal that is not indigenous to China, so the fu dogs also came to resemble mythical animals that appear with similarities to dogs and lions. You will find them poised with a ferocious stance, one feet in the air, ready to attack.
