Published byThe Viking Press, 1966, hardcover, large format, illustrated, 205 pages, some wear to dust jacket, otherwise condition: very good.
The illustrator Andrew Loomis (1892-1959) is revered among artists - including comics superstar Alex Ross - for his mastery of figure drawing and clean, Realist style.
His hugely influential series of art instruction books have never been bettered, and Figure Drawing is the first in Titan's programme of facsimile editions, returning these classic titles to print for the first time in decades.
I love this book. It's old fashioned but that's okay, especially when it comes to a book on drawing. I can't think of anything that would stop being relevant fifty years from now... The figures may be a little idealized in proportions but you can learn just as much from it. Andrew Loomis writes to the reader like a friend. This book is perfect for reading with a cup of coffee and your sketchbook nearby.
Andrew Loomis was an American illustrator, writer, and art instructor. His commercial work was featured prominently in advertising and magazines. However, Loomis is best known as the writer of a series of instructional art books printed throughout the 20th century, and also as the inventor of the "Loomis method". Long after his death, Loomis's realistic style has continued to influence popular artists.
