When Final Fantasy VII was released in Europe, the old continent discovered the existence of a new dimension of role-playing games, vast, rich and varied, in short, grandiose. Repeating the feat by following up on one of the best references of the genre was not a foregone conclusion. The development team at Square Soft has therefore spared no effort to create an eighth episode as convincing as the previous one, if not more so. While the main characters have changed, the challenge remains enormous, as it is once again a question of saving the world. In addition to this essential quest, there is a whole series of side missions that considerably enrich the storyline, which therefore continues to evolve. The dozens of characters you will have the opportunity to meet show reactions as diverse as they are unpredictable, almost human in some way. Graphically, Final Fantasy VII has a lot to offer, both in terms of the settings in which you evolve and in terms of the numerous cinematic sequences that the developers have undoubtedly mastered to perfection. The animations are also numerous and, whether you notice them or not, they fit perfectly into the game's universe. Not to mention the turn-based combat phases, which take on a new dimension here. Final Fantasy VIII represents the very essence of role-playing, a must-have that fans of this kind of challenge cannot ignore. --Arnold Vincent

This doesn't prevent the nods. For those new to RPGs, the combat and dialogue are very accessible and the game is easy to pick up.
