"Being a Narrative of the Campaign in SuppressingĀ the Native Rising in Matabeleland and Mashonaland".

A copy published 1897 by Methuen & Co., that has been rebound in hard pebbled cloth, with gilt spine titling on a red background, 4 raised bands on the spine. The first and last endpapers are modern. The second endpaper and half-title pages are in poor condition, marked and having damaged edges. The page after the title page, containing a figure of a "Matabele Warrior Making Disparaging Remarks", exists in two pieces, missing the middle third, and these have been pasted down onto the first page of the note to the reader by the author. The first endpaper contains a contemporary handwritten note to the effect that this book came from Lady Knox's (G.O.C's crossed out) Blockhouse Library Kroonstad District, and that it should be returned there. Lady Knox was a member of the Ladies Committee that visited concentration camps during the Boer War in order to evaluate conditions. The remainder of the 500 pages are in good condition, with the exception of a corner missing from the last page.
